An interview with Lucinda Parr, Head of Customer Success and Growth Cloud Services at MEDIO powered by Involve.
Some people arrive in healthcare technology by a straight road. Lucinda Parr took the scenic route. She now leads customer success for cloud services at Involve, working with NHS providers on virtual consultations, but her career began in networking back in the 1990s.
A career that began with the Palm Pilot
Lucinda’s first role was in enterprise network solutions. The product she worked on also branched into one of the first handheld mini devices with a keyboard, the Palm Pilot, which Blackberry would later rival and enjoy huge success with.
Three decades on, what stands out most is not any one gadget. It is the change in how people think about technology.
From “exceptional circumstances” to everyday care
When video consultations were first introduced, Lucinda explains, they were often seen as something to use only in exceptional circumstances. Today they are recognised as a valuable part of delivering accessible, flexible healthcare.
That shift is at the heart of her work with MEDIO Consult, a secure virtual consultation platform designed specifically for healthcare organisations, and particularly NHS providers.
What MEDIO Consult offers
The idea is to bring everything under one umbrella. Providers can access:
- Scheduled appointments
- Virtual drop-in clinics
- Waiting rooms
The platform also includes accessibility features, among them built-in interpreter and British Sign Language support. It has been designed to help reduce missed clinical appointments (often called “did not attends”) and to improve access to care.
Flexibility for the patients who need it most
For patients, the benefit is choice. Appointments can be attended from home, on the go, from work or from another location.
Lucinda is clear about who gains the most. That flexibility is hugely valuable for patients who are particularly vulnerable, who live in rural areas, who have long-term conditions, or who are carers themselves.
Seeing a project become part of patient care
Lucinda has worked closely with organisations that have embedded video into their services. For her, one of the most rewarding moments is watching something that started as a project become an integral part of patient care.
The best part of the job: the people
Asked what she enjoys most about working with NHS staff, her answer is simple: the people.
The common theme she sees is a real sense of purpose in everything they do. Every team has its own challenges, but they share a commitment to delivering the best possible care, often in incredibly busy and pressured environments.
“Knowing that our work can contribute to making health care more accessible,” she says, “is just great.”
